Ilocos Norte transport groups offer free rides for “Palaro” delegates

MINC ensures mobility through shuttle operations, coordination, and volunteer efforts

As Ilocos Norte welcomes over 15,000 athletes and officials for the 65th Palarong Pambansa, the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte, through the Metro Ilocos Norte Council (MINC), in coordination with local transport groups, has mobilized province-wide support to ensure safe, organized, and accessible transportation throughout the weeklong event.

Free shuttle services are being provided from airports and major terminals to billeting sites, and from billeting areas to official competition venues across host cities and municipalities. This initiative is being carried out under the direct supervision of MINC, with the full support of the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte.

In a coordination meeting held prior to the arrival of delegations, MINC directed all transport heads that any violation of fair fare policies, including overcharging, will be met with appropriate sanctions. The Provincial Government and its partners reaffirm their commitment to a safe, disciplined, and welcoming environment for all “Palaro” participants and guests.

TODA drivers step up with “Libreng Sakay” for visiting athletes

Among those leading the way is Mr. Edmar Ambrocio, a long-serving member of MINC and the Laoag City Tricycle Operators and Drivers’ Association (TODA). In a show of support for the Palarong Pambansa, Mr. Ambrocio has been offering free tricycle rides to visiting athletes and delegation members around the city.

“Maraming salamat sa ating mga kapatid sa TODA ng Laoag City sa pagbibigay ng libreng sakay sa ating mga bisita para sa Palarong Pambansa,” MINC posted, recognizing the collective effort of the local transport sector.

In Batac City, tricycle drivers have also extended courtesy rides, with warm thanks extended to “manong drivers” who have gone the extra mile in the spirit of Ilokano hospitality and volunteerism.

These efforts form part of a broader transportation support system coordinated by the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte, covering high-traffic areas in Laoag City, San Nicolas, Batac, Paoay, and other nearby municipalities. Delegates are assured of regular transport access throughout the games, reinforcing the province’s commitment to a seamless hosting experience.—PGIN-CMO
